Restaurant Website Design in Waterloo: Urwa’s Pakistani Cuisine Case Study
Turning an Outdated Joomla Site Into a Modern Restaurant Website for Waterloo Region
This restaurant website design case study shows how Tecticx Technologies, a Kitchener-Waterloo web development agency, rebuilt the website for Urwa’s Pakistani Cuisine in Waterloo, Ontario.
Urwa’s Pakistani Cuisine is a family-run, halal-certified Pakistani and Indian restaurant at 402 King Street North in Waterloo, Ontario, serving dine-in, takeout and catering to diners across Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge.
The restaurant’s reputation had grown with its food, but its website had not. The old site was built on Joomla, was hard to navigate, did not work properly on phones, and showed the menu as pasted images.
Tecticx redesigned and rebuilt Urwa’s website from the ground up. The new site launched in October 2026, and Tecticx continues to maintain it.
Project at a Glance
- Client: Urwa’s Pakistani Cuisine
- Location: 402 King Street North, Waterloo, Ontario N2J 2Z3
- Industry: Halal Pakistani and Indian restaurant (dine-in, takeout and catering)
- Service area: Waterloo, Kitchener, Cambridge and Waterloo Region
- Previous website: Outdated Joomla site with an image-only menu, not mobile-friendly
- What Tecticx did: Restaurant website redesign, content restructuring, mobile-first build, local SEO foundations and ongoing maintenance
- Launched: October 2026
- Live website: urwarestaurant.com
The Challenge
Urwa’s had a strong following offline, with regulars, catering clients and thousands of online reviews. The website was the weak link.
- Completely outdated: the site was built on Joomla years ago and had not kept up with how people now look for restaurants.
- No real structure: there was no clear path from landing on the site to finding the menu, the hours or a way to order.
- Menu pasted as images: diners had to zoom into pictures to read dishes and prices, and search engines could not read the menu at all.
- Hard to navigate: key information was buried, so visitors left before finding what they came for.
- Not responsive: the site did not adapt to phones, which is where most people decide where to eat.
For a restaurant, every one of those problems costs orders. When someone nearby searches for Pakistani food in Waterloo and lands on a site that is hard to read on their phone, they tap back and choose somewhere else.
Discovery: Understanding How Diners Choose Urwa’s
Before designing anything, we looked at how people actually choose Urwa’s. Three things come up again and again in its reviews: the food, the generous portions, and the feeling of being treated like family.
Diners also arrive with a specific job to do. Some want to see the menu and prices. Some want to order through Skip, Uber Eats or DoorDash. Some are planning a party or office lunch and need catering. Others want to know when the weekend halwa puri breakfast is served.
That shaped the whole website: lead with the restaurant’s story and reputation, then give each type of visitor a clear, fast route to what they need.
The Solution
We replaced the old Joomla site with a completely new website designed around the way people choose a restaurant today: on a phone, in a hurry, and with a few specific questions to answer before they order.
Every page now has a clear structure, the menu is real text instead of images, and ordering, catering and contact details are never more than a tap away.
Building the New Urwa’s Website
The new homepage opens with a warm, food-first hero, “Where Tradition Meets Flavour”, with two clear actions: Order Online and View Menu. A trust bar underneath shows Urwa’s Google and Tripadvisor ratings, its halal certification and that it is family-run in Waterloo.
From there, each section answers one question a diner has:
- Order through your favourite app: direct buttons for SkipTheDishes, Uber Eats and DoorDash.
- Our story: a short introduction to the restaurant and the family behind it.
- Weekend breakfast: a dedicated section for Urwa’s halwa puri, served Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
- Signature dishes: favourites such as tandoori mixed grill, nihari and mutton karahi, with a link to the full menu and prices.
- Family meals, party trays and catering: a clear path for groups, office lunches and events across Waterloo Region.
- Real reviews and a food gallery: what guests say, alongside photos from the kitchen.
- WhatsApp community: a QR code so regulars can join for deals and daily specials.
- Call to order or reserve: the address, phone number and opening hours in every footer.
The site navigation is simple: Home, About, Menu, Catering, Gallery, Reviews and Contact, with a “Today’s Deal” button always in view.
Designed for Ordering on a Phone
Most restaurant visits start on a phone, so the new Urwa’s website was designed to work just as well on a small screen as on a desktop.
On mobile, the header stays compact with the logo, a “Today’s Deal” button and a simple menu. Dish cards stack neatly, ordering buttons are easy to tap, and the phone number, address and hours are always within reach.
Built for Local SEO, AEO and GEO
A restaurant website also has to be easy for Google and AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google’s AI Overviews to understand. We built Urwa’s new site with that in mind:
- Readable menu content: dishes are real text, not images, so search engines can see what Urwa’s serves.
- Local signals on every page: the name, King Street North address, Waterloo phone number and hours appear consistently in the footer.
- Location-aware headings: sections such as “Best Halwa Puri in Kitchener-Waterloo” match how people actually search.
- Clear, quotable sections: cuisine, services, halal certification and breakfast hours are stated plainly, which is the kind of information AI search tools pick up and repeat.
This is the same approach we use in our SEO, AEO and GEO services for Kitchener-Waterloo businesses. If you are new to the idea, our guide on what GEO means for a local business explains it in plain language.
The Impact
The new Urwa’s Pakistani Cuisine website launched in October 2026.
The old Joomla site, with its image-only menu and broken mobile layout, has been replaced by a modern website that reflects the restaurant its regulars already love. Diners can now find the menu, order through their preferred app, book catering or call the restaurant in a few taps on any device.
The work did not stop at launch. Tecticx continues to maintain the website, so the owner has a local team to call whenever something needs updating.
Shortly after launch, the owner, Sheikh Dawood, left a five-star Google review about the experience. One line summed up what we aim for on every project:
“They explain everything clearly and deliver what they promise.”
From Urwa’s Kitchen
The new website puts Urwa’s real food, dining room and King Street storefront front and centre, using the restaurant’s own photos rather than stock images.
Sheikh Dawood’s Google Review
In his own words, here is how the owner of Urwa’s Pakistani Cuisine described working with the Tecticx team.
“My restaurant, Urwa’s Pakistani Cuisine, had a very old website, and they did an excellent job redesigning, updating, and maintaining it. They guided me through the entire process and provided outstanding support.
They are very professional, friendly, honest, and helpful people. They explain everything clearly and deliver what they promise.
I highly recommend Fahad Bhai and his team to anyone looking to build a new website or improve an existing one.”
