J.M. Tibbott Author Website Design Case Study in Kitchener-Waterloo
Creating a New Digital Home for an Author and Her Story World
J.M. Tibbott is a Kitchener-Waterloo author, writing instructor and editor whose work includes The Pridden Saga, short stories, articles and an imaginative collection of characters and creatures.
Over time, her existing website had stopped reflecting the quality of her work. It was becoming harder to manage, the content felt disconnected, and the site did not give readers a clear way to explore her books, characters, stories and creative journey.
Tecticx Technologies worked with J.M. Tibbott to redesign and rebuild her website in WordPress, creating a modern digital home that is easier to explore, easier to manage and ready to grow with her future work.
The Challenge
The challenge was bigger than simply updating the design.
J.M. Tibbott had years of creative work to bring together, including books, character artwork, creatures, blog content, illustrations and animations. At the same time, she wanted more control over the website so she could continue publishing content without depending on a developer for every small update.
There was also an important storytelling consideration: some characters and creatures could not appear on the website until they had first been introduced through her social media and content strategy.
The new website therefore needed to be visually engaging, easy to maintain and flexible enough to reveal J.M. Tibbott’s fictional world gradually.
Discovery: Understanding the Story Behind the Website
Before starting the design, we spent time understanding J.M. Tibbott’s journey as an author and how the different parts of her work connected. Her books were not separate from the characters. The characters were not separate from the creatures. Kat’s Blog was not simply another blog section.
Everything belonged to the same growing story world. That discovery shaped the entire website.
Instead of creating a generic author website, we built the experience around the way readers would naturally discover J.M. Tibbott: first the author, then the books, followed by the characters, creatures, blog and wider universe behind the stories.
The Solution
Our approach to custom web development in Kitchener-Waterloo focused on building a connected digital ecosystem, not just a website.
We combined multiple systems into one seamless experience for both users and administrators.
Building the New J.M. Tibbott Website
The new website was designed and developed in WordPress with a clean, modern structure while keeping the personality and imagination behind J.M. Tibbott’s work. Visitors can now move easily between her biography, books, creatures, gallery and Kat’s Blog without feeling overwhelmed by the amount of content.
The Books section creates a clear home for The Pridden Saga, while the Creatures area gives J.M. Tibbott the flexibility to introduce new elements of her world over time. Kat’s Blog provides another important layer to the website. It gives readers a reason to return and allows the story to continue beyond the books themselves. You can see that experience in action in Kat’s Blog.
The website was also built to work smoothly across desktop, tablet and mobile devices and to provide a stronger technical foundation for future SEO, content marketing and online visibility.
Giving the Author More Control
An important part of this project was making sure the website did not become something the client was afraid to touch.
After launch, we worked with J.M. Tibbott on practical WordPress tasks such as changing featured characters, adding images to blog posts and managing new content.
That means the website is not only a finished design. It is a platform she can continue using as her books and fictional world grow.
The Impact
The new J.M. Tibbott website launched in July 2026 and now gives her a much stronger digital foundation.
Her books, characters, creatures, personal story and blog are no longer competing for attention. They now feel like different parts of the same brand and reader experience.
The website is easier to navigate, more responsive on mobile devices and better structured for future content.
More importantly, J.M. Tibbott has a website she is excited to use and proud to share.
Following the launch, she shared both a Google review and a video testimonial about her experience working with the Tecticx team.
One message from Marilyn particularly stayed with us:
“I am still smiling over what a great job the two of you have done for me.”
That kind of feedback means a great deal because our goal was never simply to replace her old website. It was to understand what she had created and give it the online home it deserved.
